Richard "Gary" Houck

June 3, 1945 — March 11, 2025

Richard Gary Houck passed away on March 11, 2025 after a brief illness.
Gary was born in Albany, New York and raised in Slingerlands.  He attended Bethlehem Central High School, Class of 1963, and graduated from Lycoming College in 1967.  He was an active participant in all school activities and is remembered by members of the Class of 1963 as fun-loving and a bit irreverent.  During his college years, Gary was active in his fraternity, Kappa Delta Rho, and forged friendships that lasted a lifetime.
During his working career, Gary worked mainly in sales.  He was a totally supportive husband to Jancy, his wife of 49 years.  As her career took her to several universities, Gary developed a love of collegiate sports and he enjoyed cheering for the teams and supporting the work of those universities.
Gary was a devoted father to son Jake and was a man ahead of his time as he opted to be a stay at home dad to actively participate in Jake’s schooling and development.  He served many hours as a volunteer for Jake’s elementary, middle and high schools.  And, always willing to lend a hand, Gary was often seen as a “professional neighbor” by those living nearby.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Henry Houck and Jane Houck Stolz, sister Nancy Houck Salisbury and step-sister Christine Stolz.  He is survived by his wife Jancy Gallt Houck, son Jacob Houck (Jacquelyn Houck) and granddaughter Leah Belle Houck.
Those who wish to remember Gary with a tangible memorial may consider a gift.  His two favorite charities were:
