Nolan Hudson Brooks, Jr. passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Nolan and Nellie Brooks, Sr. on November 30, 1943. Mr. Brooks graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a master’s degree in history. He served as a First Lieutenant with the U.S. Army as a member of the Signal Corps in the Vietnam War, where he earned a Bronze Star. After his service in the Army, he went on to work for Travelers Insurance Company, in Atlanta, Georgia. Shortly thereafter he moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he spent the bulk of his career. After over 30 years with the company, he retired from Travelers in 2003. He loved Duke basketball, his dogs, Civil War history, photography, bird watching, and reading. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Nolan is survived by his sons Daryl (Brandie) and Jeff (Sooky), sister Sharron (Barry) Hunt, and three grandchildren, Ansley, Addy, and Rainer. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Brooks.
