d. February 23, 2016

John Mason Snuggs, Sr, Marietta, 84. Loving father of four, grandfather of eight, their "Ah-Yeh" went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, February 6, 2016. Born in Richmond, Virginia, the second of three children to Southern Baptist Missionaries, John spent his childhood and formative years in South China until about age 5. Upon the family's return from furlough in the States, he attended the Shanghai American School entering in the 3rd grade. He graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA (BA Physics) in 1957, also attending Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA., and Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He was inducted in 1954 into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served 18 months as a drafter at the Beale Air Force Base near Marysville, CA. In 1959, he married Louise Wallen in Arlington, VA. They had 4 children and settled in the Atlanta area in 1968.

John enjoyed a 40-year career as a regional sales manager in the Data Communications field, and was member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for more than 50 years. Later John led an active retirement as a tutor with Academic Solutions from 1999 to 2010, a satisfying position which he said fulfilled his dream of teaching, which had begun years earlier as a Sunday School teacher where he originally met the soon to be Mrs. Snuggs.

From 1968 to 1976, John and his young family attended Briarlake Baptist Church and later became a founding member of both North Atlanta Community Church in Chamblee, GA and Dunwoody Community Church. For the past 20 years, John attended Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, GA and enjoyed the discussions of Overcomers and The Defenders Sunday School classess. John was also active politically and active in the Dekalb County Republican party and rose to the position of Precinct Captain in 1988.

True to his Christian convictions, John was a decades-long, passionate activist in the Pro-Life movement with Georgia Right to Life.

John will be greatly missed and is survived by daughter Susan Louise Snuggs, of Marietta, GA; son John Mason Snuggs, Jr. (Barbora) of Marietta, grandchildren John Mason III, Veronika, and Grace; son James Wallen Snuggs Sr. (Donna), of Ooltewah, TN, grandchildren Jameson, William, and Olivia; and daughter Sharon Elizabeth Snuggs (Troy Waialeale) of Kauai, Hawaii, granddaughters Harmony and Manna Graziano; and his brother, Harold H. Snuggs, Jr. (Bettie) of Columbia, SC.

He is predeceased by his wife, Louise Wallen Snuggs, of Chamblee, GA, his mother Grace Mason Snuggs, his father Harold Hebinger Snuggs, Sr., and his sister Margaret Ann Snuggs Hallman of Columbia, SC.

John's favorite Bible passage was John 13:33-34(NIV): "My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

In lieu of flowers, donations to Georgia Right to Life in his name would be appreciated ( www.grtl.org ).
